Pour une fois, je montre l’envers du décor : le crayonné. Après un premier croquis rapide, me permettant de valider l’idée avec mon D.A, je passe par un crayonné au propre. En général, on discute encore sur la composition, les attitudes, des détails. Je corrige selon les retours, puis je passe à la couleur.
This time, I’ll show you behind the scenes. Let’s talk about sketches. I always draw first a rough draft. It helps me to validate idea with my Art director, and to not doing a non-sense. Second, I draw a more elaborate sketch. My art director look at it & send me feedbacks to improve composition, attitudes, and details. Sometimes no need to feedbacks, my work is already fine ^^. Then I correct my illustration according to feebacks, and I can go to the color setting.

Le mythe de l’illustrateur qui trouve l’inspiration, café à la main, en regardant par la fenêtre, ne me correspond pas. Je suis plus à l’aise dans la discussion et dans l’échange.
I’m not too into the myth of the illustrator who finds inspiration in contemplation. I’m more comfortable in the discussion and exchange.

L’escalier aka la perspective de l’angoisse. Travailler directement à la tablette graphique m’a permit de mieux appréhender l’espace, et de corriger, non stop, jusqu’à ce que l’ensemble fonctionne. Un illustrateur qui progresse, c’est un illustrateur qui n’a pas peur de se corriger, d’effacer, et de recommencer. Un peu comme un artisan.
The staircase aka the prospect of anxiety. Work directly with the tablet allowed me to better understand space, and correct myself , until the whole illustration works. I think an illustrator who progresses, is an illustrator who is not afraid to correct, delete, and start over.

To create fairy godmother, I was inspired by my french grandmother. She never had the opportunity to travel outside of France. But she is very proud to travel to Korea with this book.
